Design Style: Prairie School

I’ve talked about finding sartorial inspiration from architectural design; today’s inspiration is Prairie School.

Prairie School is a style of modern architecture based around craftsmanship, integration with the environment, and an organic aesthetic.  So how do we turn this into an outfit?  The key to Priarie School fashion is clean lines and a nature-based color palette, with functional detailing.

We start with this top from qsw.  Horizontal lines feature heavily in P.S. so this is perfect.  Clothing items should also be functional, wearable and versatile; like these twill Joie pants.  Shoes are the foundation of any outfit, and these comfortable oxfords  with an interesting cut-away detail work well with the this aesthetic.   Prairie School should have a minimum of accessories (also, jewelry should have shine, not sparkle, and a graphic punch).  This House of Harlow pendant  rounds out the look nicely.
