Cute Thing of the Week

How cool is this dice ring?

Superawesomely cool!

Simple, yet oddly mesmerising!  Sleek, elegant, little bit of shine, little bit of quirky: it just makes me smile!  I want it for no other redeeming reason, it’s just cool.

Adventures in Underwire

It’s that time again!  (and by that time, I mean the Victoria’s Secret sale time) Time to talk about knickers!

I like to have myself re-measured everytime the semi-annual sale comes around; it’s a good reminder, everyone needs to be re-measured twice a year because your size can change.  And mine has changed twice in about a year and a half.  Which is probably why I had been having trouble finding comfortable underthings.  Ayiyi.  I must have tried on 3 dozen different bras, nothing was working.  So the nice lady at Victoria’s measured me, and my size has changed again, to the hard to find 32DD.  Yikes! But, she said, that’s only a guideline, and I could also try a 34D, which would be easier to find.

Personally, I just want to be comfortable.  And I was able to find something that worked for me.  But good lord!  It shouldn’t be this hard to find workable underthings!  And the straps?!  Torture device or unsolvable puzzle?  Bit of both? Sigh.

Also?  Knickers.  Knickers, knickers, knickers! (snicker)

DIY Monday: Jewelry Edition

DIY Monday is now brought to you by Thursday.

So I have been feeling the creative urge lately, and when I saw these jade beads, I knew they’d be perfect for earrings!

I paired the jade squares with some faceted grey pearls I’ve had for a while now, and I think these look pretty darn fabulous.  The squares were side drilled, which gave me some the idea to make the curve that you see.  The green color was something I had really been wanting in my wardrobe, so I’m thrilled with my new earrings!

I promised a post on this wonderful vintage shop: Renew.

It’s in downtown Geneva, right on the Fox river, so you can walk there from my friend Ll’s place.

I have mentioned before that Chicagoland has great thrift stores, but this place is really well edited.  Even if I don’t find anything I want to actually buy, I always have fun looking here.  And yes, this is where I found the pink embroidered cowboy boots!  (which were still there last time I checked)

The stuff I’ve found there isn’t the usual mishmash of vintage; it’s very well curated so there’s a lot of whimsy, texture and color.  They also have a section just for bridesmaids and wedding dresses!  Oh so much tulle!  And Satin!  There’s just something inherently funny about used wedding dresses.

Inspiration Board: June

This week is all about creativity and inspiration.  Inspiration is everywhere, but it’s sometimes hard to translate that into something real.  And also, I am sometimes very lazy and just want to take a nap instead of painting, sewing, beading or whatever!  (Sometimes you just have to give yourself a little poke in the behind to get started.)

But whatever your medium is, it’s important to seek out inspiration.  So here is my inspiration board for June:

A pop of color, a pinch of texture and a twist of style.  Perfect.

Where have you been all my li-i-i-ife!

Filed under: Uncategorized — by twistedchic @ 10:30 pm

My month long hiatus was, alas, due to the epic tragic failure of my computer, which suddendly decided that it no longer wanted to start.  I think it had a bad case of angst.  Anyway, it’s fixed(ish) so I’m back!

For my first post back, I want to take some time to highlight a blog that really inspires me:  Haute Muslimah.  The author is an always-positive snappy dresser who likes to keep it a little more modest. I love the different perspective that Haute Muslimah brings to fashion and style, and let me tell you, you can look pretty darn fabulous even all covered up!  I have a lot of respect for this blog, and I think you should check it out!

She was also recently featured in this article about Muslim bloggers and their secrets!
